During the visit His Majesty Albert II of the Belgians paid to Lille on 29 October 2003, the COPIT-GPCI organised a conference on the theme of 'Open borders to promote employment'.
The conference confirmed the importance of opening up the labour market. As well as highlighting the myriad problems, the event also pointed to the wide range of valuable initiatives. For example, it showed the importance of continuing to promote various systems for exchanging information and experiences between the various employment stakeholders in the cross-border metropolis
The conference gave rise to several key proposals, prepared by the various working groups.
