ABSTRACT (cross-border co-operation, landscape, French-Belgian metropolis of Lille) (Ieper, Kortrijk, Lille, Mouscron, Roeselare, Tournai)
At the request of the Cross-Border Workshop, Philippe Thomas, landscape architect in Lille, elaborates a picture of the landscape of the cross-border region. Initially, his approach is subjective (based on explorations and pictorial as well as literary quotations), but then becomes objective (on the basis of cartographic analyses). He discovers material for a new identity and for a common view of the landscape. After having identified twelve local areas, he presents an overall picture of the landscape, with a basic pattern and different 'motifs'. |
