ABSTRACT (multilingualism, perception, motivation, language teaching, French-Belgian metropolis) (Ieper, Kortrijk, Lille, Mouscron, Roeselare, Tournai)
In cooperation with the Cross-border Workshop, Professors Piet Desmet and Lea Vermeire of the Catholic University of Leuven Campus Kortrijk, were commissioned to carry out a study on multilingualism in the cross-border metropolis. The position and the comparison of multilingualism in the three regions of the cross-border metropolis and the motivation for studying languages make the core of the study. An extensive state of things with regard to the teaching of French in Flanders and the teaching of Dutch in northern France and Wallonia was published in the fifth Yearbook of the French-Netherlands – Les Pays-Bas Français. In this Cahier Carine Reuvers is processing the results of these studies and publications and concludes with a number of recent initiatives for the promotion of multilingualism in the cross-border metropolis. |
